Why Bangkok Songkran Festival?
If you want a holiday featuring Bangkok’s normal offerings - Buddhist temples, noisy nightclubs, Indian tailors trying to sell you suits, night markets offering delicious street food and beautiful women with a surprise package - you better choose any of the year’s other 360 days to visit!
But if you want a holiday with a difference, for two days (unofficially five days) in mid-April, Thai New Year is sworn in with the largest water fights in the world.
What makes Bangkok's Songkran Festival so amazing?
Well, Bangkok’s heated celebration isn’t for the stuffy or faint-hearted - only think about attending if you’re willing to get hot, wet, wild and stuck in! So leave your egos, cameras and phones back in your hotel - all you’ll need is a T-shirt, shorts, flip-flops and military sized, automatic, pump action water pistol… and a bucket… and money for beer… in a waterproof bag.
The biggest and best water fights take place at Backpacker Central - Khao San Road, Rattanakosin Royal Square, Phra Athit Road, Santhichaiprakan and Wisut Krasat but there’s no escaping a drenching anywhere in the city as hundreds of thousands of people; young and old, locals and farang (foreigners) join together in a cavalcade of colour, broken flip-flops and wet T-shirts!
- One of the biggest water fights in the world!
- Five days of partying in Thailand's crazy capital
- Join thousands of other people forgetting their worries
- Unleash your inner child!
