Why run The Big 5 Marathon?
There’s a reason the best marathon runners are often from Africa - having to outrun Lions and Tigers is sure to put a skip in your step!
This explains why charity marathon runners dress as ostriches, pantomime zebras and rhinoceroses - to help the race-leaders run faster!
If you're a runner, here's your chance to swap being chased by ostrich-riding businessmen with fake legs for running from the real thing in the African savannah of Entabeni Game Reserve, between Johannesburg and the Kruger National Park...
What makes this the fiercest race on earth?
Running alongside real zebra, antelope and giraffes, you’ll traverse 13 or 26 miles of dirt-track through lion, leopard, elephant, buffalo and rhinoceros country for the most unforgettable marathon of your life.
Only serious runners should apply but this probably isn’t the place to beat your PB; with no fences to protect you, herds of animals could delay your race!
The Big 5 Marathon also includes a Big 5 Game Tour in 4x4’s where you’ll also get to see crocodiles, hippos and a plethora of birdlife under the magnificent Entabeni sandstone monoliths.
