Why visit the Choregies D'Orange Summer Festival?
If your idea of heaven is opera, ballet and classical recitals in mind-blowing venues, we have the ultimate treat! The Choregies D'Orange Summer Festival is celebrating its 150th anniversary so they’re staging an extra special, six week series of performances to set your hearts and souls alight!
Taking place in the glorious Rhône Valley, France’s oldest festival gathers the world’s greatest tenors, mezzo-sopranos and dance performers. It then verily plops them onto the most jaw-dropping stages imaginable so you can feel like you’ve died and gone to heaven!
If you don’t believe us, you’ve obviously never visited Orange’s UNESCO-listed, ancient Roman theatre, whose thirty-seven metre-tall stage wall and basilica-flanks still provide the perfect backdrop and unbelievable acoustics… but you can!
D’Orange is the new black!
This year, Choregies D'Orange Summer Festival’s venues, the Théâtre Antique d'Orange, Saint Louis Yard or Our Lady of Nazareth Cathedral will play host to a breath-taking Romeo and Juliet ballet, Rossini’s William Tell, Mozart’s Don Giovanni and a recital from renowned Mexican tenor, Ramón Vargas.
There’s also Mahler’s Symphony No. 8, an exquisite night of Spanish opera, German folktale Faust and a concert from DJ Jeff Mills performing with the Regional Avignon-Provence Orchestra. And, because it’s not over till the fat lady sings, how about Chorégies d'Orange’s pièce de résistance; 200 musicians, performers and dancers of Musiques en fête?
Whichever performances you choose, you’re in for some exceptional, unforgettable evenings amongst the heavenly summer fête atmosphere of Provence.
