Car nostalgia heaven at Circuit des Remparts
Spending the day at a vintage car museum is all well and good, but it’s a bit like a zoo – whilst you can see some lovely specimens, it’s a little sad that they aren’t out in their natural environment.
But where exactly, you may ask, is a vintage sports car’s natural environment? It’s the Circuit des Remparts, of course!
This hair-raising historic classic car race winds its way through the ancient road layout of the hilltop town of Angoulême in the southwest of France every year. And, as the iconic race celebrates its 80th anniversary in 2019, you can be there to witness it all!
More than just a classic car show…
Yeah. So much more.
It's classic all round. When it comes to the Circuit des Remparts, not much has changed since 1939. The same route and the same cars, although now these are classed as vintage cars (back in the day, they’d have just been ‘cars’).
Yet, this event is more than simply watching gorgeous motors whiz around the streets of the walled town. This is a three-day celebration of classic automobiles, allowing you to truly soak up every last drop of nostalgia.
Watch events like the ‘Concours D’Elegance’, where the cars and their period-dressed drivers parade the stage for your entertainment. You’ll also want to check out the ‘Concours d’Etat’ – a more technically challenging parade.
Then, on Sunday evening, take your place in the grandstand for the main event. Trust me, after watching a 1929 Bugatti Type 37 take a hairpin bend at speed, you'll never look at it as an 'antique' ever again!

- Takes place in the gorgeous French hilltop town of Angoulême
