Why Heli-Skiing In Kamchatka?
At Life of Riley, we’d love to think we push boundaries and Heli-Skiing Kamchatka, in the extreme far east of Russia, may well be our most far-flung, boundary-pushing adventure yet - just take a look on the map!
So, we’ve upheld our end of the bargain, now it’s your turn! Instead of reading A Song of Fire and Ice on the 07:48 train to work, why not jump out of a helicopter and ski down an active volcano in the real Land of Fire and Ice?
Kamchatka receives some of the heaviest snowfall on earth, meaning there are heaps of freshies on the hook; perfect powder for when you ski the lines of your life under those lava-bubbling volcanoes! If you love to ski, then this rugged and snowy terrain is a dream come true for every adventurer.
What Makes Kamchatka The Best Skiing In The World?
Well, first off, this 1,000km peninsula stretches from Alaska out to the Sea of Okhotsk making it so remote it almost isn’t part of this world! Located on the famous Ring of Fire, it is, without doubt, one of Russia's, or probably even the world’s, most beautiful regions boasting more than 200 constantly erupting volcanoes. Oh, and did we mention the Heliskiing terrain is the same size as Switzerland?
Staying at The Hotel Antarius, tucked away in the valley of the Hot Springs, you can choose between Fire and Ice, Wild East Discovery or Big Volcano skiing packages and there’s plenty more to do than just ski… you can sea-kayak, skidoo, take sight-seeing flights over crater lakes or just chill in the hot spring sauna!
So what’s it to be? Helicopters, skiing and volcanoes or the daily commute to work, a good book and a packed lunch?
