Why run The Mount Everest Marathon?

If you’re a bit like me, your youth must have similarly been plagued by the question “Marathon Runner or Mountain Climber? Marathon Runner or Mountain Climber?” Now, with The Mount Everest Marathon you can be both!

After illustrious careers in both distinctions, I decided I’d much rather toil behind a desk writing about the best experiences money can buy so you too could live the Life of Riley!

All participants of are requested to be in Nepal three weeks prior to the race for acclimatising to the high altitude. In essence, this is a THREE WEEK HOLIDAY that combines sightseeing tours in Kathmandu, a 14-day trek to the marathon starting point, topped off by the most gruelling race in existence! If you can push yourself to the limits of endurance this much, well... you can do practically anything. You really will be "Top of the world, Ma!"

What makes the Everest Marathon so uplifting?

Your journey will begin with a sweeping scenic flight from Kathmandu to Lukla, followed by a trek through the untouched, mesmerising Sherpa villages. From here, you’ll climb Kalapatthar for a breathtaking panoramic view of the Himalayan peaks, ranges and glaciers including Mount Everest.
Then it’s on to the famous Everest Base Camp where the race begins. Along the way you’ll pass through the Everest National Park and Namche Bazaar, the Sherpa capital town. We will also visit the Buddhist monasteries of Pangboche and Thyangboche.

The good news is that for all three disciplines - half, full and 62km Mount Everest Marathon, the majority of the race is downhill, but there are two steep uphill sections - there were last time I did it anyway!
