Salmon Fishing in Norway - A Pilgrimage for Anglers?

Just as Catholics flock to Lourdes, Buddhists break for Borobudur and Muslims make their way to Mecca, if you’re a European angler, then you simply must make a Salmon Fishing in Norway pilgrimage at least once in this lifetime...

Salmon Fishing in Norway at sunset

Famous around the world for its salmon-rich waters, fishermen have been flocking to Norway’s unspoilt country and dramatic landscape since the mid-nineteenth century and with the Norwegian fishing season running only from June - August, this might be your only angle(!)

Is this Scandinavia's Best Salmon Fishing Adventure?

Or are there plenty of other fish in the rivers? Your base will be the secluded, grass-roofed Aunan Lodge (and its welcoming jacuzzis) nestled in a beautiful valley in Rennebu, an hour south of Trondheim.

Your seven summer day pilgrimage will be spent happily, patiently and lazily fishing on one of twelve unique pools on the Orkla river - an extremely tranquil in a slow and dreamy way which keeps the tourists away but seduces salmon anglers.

If the river is seductive, then the same can be said in equal measure for the surroundings. Nestled into a tranquil but steeply sloped valley, surrounded by mature woodland and well-kept farms, this is as much a retreat as it is a great salmon river.

With one guide per six anglers, their expert tactical and technical advice will help you land that 40lb beast! Your evenings at the lodge will be spent laughing by the lodge fire, drinking fine whiskies and telling tales of “the one that got away” (that’s fish and ex-girlfriends/boyfriends!) to your fellow fishermen friends.

Included on your Salmon Fishing in Norway pilgrimage are three square meals a day, which include Scandinavian favourites such as local reindeer, Norwegian strawberries, and of course, salmon. Lots and lots of salmon!
